James Macmillan Wins 2011 Golf Day
Posted by Eversholt Cricket Club on 25 May 2011
Budding Ian Poulters from Eversholt Cricket Club arrived at Millbrook on Friday morning looking to take the coveted title from 2010 winner, Steve Litchfield, who was unable to attend due to work/moving/Natalie wouldn't let him (delete as appropriate). Handicaps and playing partners were sorted over a bacon sandwich and then it was up to first grouping of Ian MacGregor, Sean Chaplin and Andy Page to show the way. Organiser Sean set bar on the first tee by depositing his tee shot out of bounds and was promptly followed by around five other who were practicing their sliced cover drives for cricket the next day.
Some sublime and ridiculous golf was played over the next few hours, including Alan Garratt hitting from the wrong fairway on each hole but still scoring well, Nigel Farmer missing two-foot putts and then making 20-footers, and the Chairman playing for his splice but hitting the ball dead straight.
As the scores were counted in the bar, it became a clear winner was emerging in James 'el Bandito' Macmillan who scored a substantial 41 points to pip Mike Gill (39) to first place. Jim also managed to take nearest the pin and longest drive! Hopefully, Jim will be back next year to defend his title but with a significantly lower handicap than 24!
It's been rumoured that Martha & the Vandellas will re-release their hit song 'Jimmy Mack' to commemorate the day's success!
A good day was had by all and we hope to see everyone next year for the 2012 Eversholt Golf Day.
