Goltzy on his time in England

Posted by Eversholt Cricket Club on 26 November 2011

Dave Goltz recently spoke to The Morning Bulletin newspaper about his time in England. Here's what he had to say...

From rubbing shoulders with West Indies great Courtney Walsh to dancing down the wicket to former Aussie spinner Greg Matthews, David Goltz's first English summer was one he will never forget.

The Frenchville cricket star now has his sights on guiding the Falcons to a record seventh straight Rockhampton Cricket A-grade premiership.

After returning home last month from a playing stint with the Eversholt Cricket Club in the UK, Goltz is out to wreak some more havoc when Frenchville faces Brothers in their top-of-the-table round eight PFD Cup clash, starting at Kalka Shades today.

The 24-year-old fast bowler turned all-rounder said there were several highlights on his journey to England but coming up against a host of former internationals including Walsh, Matthews, Phil DeFreitas, Devon Malcolm, Ian Harvey and Chris Harris was hard to beat.

"It was awesome to play a summer over there," said Goltz, who called North Crawley home during the English summer.

"Every week we were playing on a different sort of pitch so I learnt a lot about my bowling."

The Eversholt First XI Goltz starred for play in the 14-team Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League. Goltz, a larger than life character, got the opportunity to play against some greats of the game in an exhibition match with the Lashings World XI.

"It was a bit daunting when my first three balls went for four," he laughed.

However, Goltz went on to win man of the match honours after the CQ representative paceman finished with two wickets and 25 not out as Eversholt fell short of the World XI's massive total of 330 from 35 overs.

"It was great, I had a ball," said Goltz, who received the man of the match award from DeFreitas.

Goltz has already found his groove since arriving back in Rockhampton, taking three wickets against Gracemere last weekend, and he's looking forward to Frenchville's next showdown with Brothers.

"It should be a good hit-out against them and we'll be able to gauge where we are at," he said.

"There's a good vibe around our club at the moment. We've got a squad of about 16 players that can all play in the first-grade team on any week."

Goltz has also set his sights on the upcoming Frenchville Sports Club Twenty20 competition.

The three-week competition swings into action on January 7 and the big-hitting right-hander is expecting to make a move up the batting order for the smash and bash version of the game.

"I'd like to think so," laughed Goltz, who just has to persuade captain Todd Wells.

"I've been telling Wellsy I learnt a lot when I was overseas."
