Disaster in the sun at Letchworth!!
With what could only be described as 'a bad day at the office' Skipper has to report it was not the best day in his Eversholt shirt.
13.00pm
Having won the toss on another fine English day there was no doubt that the call had to be bat. Letchworth flying high at the top of the table and who have been tough competitors over the years, it seemed the right call to pile up the runs and put pressure on their batsman, especially as we have been bowling so well this season. Opening with Buzz who had been drafted in as Luke K was away, the chat was 'see off the first 10 overs without losing a wicket' but as previous weeks, myself included, we did see of the first 10 overs but for the loss of three wickets... disaster!
On a flat wicket with the opening attack not too spine tingling, it was frustrating to see things unfold. Buzz caught in the 6th, Jake followed three balls later and me, like the other two, caught behind in the next over. I'm afraid lads all of us - poor techniques - something we need to improve on. Growlshy was sent in to defend and it was not long before he saw the temptation of a half volley and cracked it to extra cover... well played boyc's! In fairness it was a little unlucky as he did catch it and the guy took off and caught it one handed falling backwards. Boars now 30 for 4.... Skipper was at this stage locating a hose to attach to his Bora Bora!!!! Ben Stuck in there, as ever playing shots all around the wicket showing us all how easy it could have been.. supported well by ever improving whistling Jack, the two put on a good stand before Jack was bowled after a change of bowling. Ben then tried to clip the leg spinner over long on and was caught backward of point for 41. There after we waved our remaining Boars off to battle only to see them back before the train had even left the station... Eversholt humiliated for 125.
3.10pm
With the sun still shining the change around was quick 'the ern had not boiled' so off to fight the battle we strolled.. With an Aussie and a Gladiator all we could hope for was to take early wickets and try and stay positive.. the boys battled exceptionally hard and Avo soon picked up an early wicket! With not much luck the guys tussled away in the heat until tea was finally called. At last the half way mark.. sadly having batted and bowled for most of it morale was low. After a snack of 2 scotch eggs, 4 sarnies, a handful of puff balls and onion rings followed by 2 apple pies, Skip was ready to lounge at 1st slip.... Commencing their inning at 58 - 1 the only thing we could play for now was pride. Grolshy fired up and bowled a full length and bowled the other opener.. yes my friends Growlshy hit the wickets.... and for a few moments there was a crack of a smile on some faces.. Avo picked up his second for the day but it was not long before number 4 & 5 steered the home team to victory! Well played Letchworth not so well played Eversholt.

We need to improve guys - as instructed get yourselves, including me, to the nets and practice... It will come right I know it will!
Thanks once again to Simon Binns & Michael Humphrey's for officiating - without you we would be a lot worse :-)
