U11 Vs Flitwick

Many thanks to all of the players and supporters that braved the windswept plains of Wrest Park this morning for the first match of the 2011 Softball campaign!!

We came up against an older and more experienced team from Flitwick but I was very pleased with the effort and achievements of our players. Mark led the team today and others will have the chance later in the summer. As all Captains should, he led from the front and opened the bowling in tandem with Evyn. This was followed by spells from Ben, Jack, Veruun and Henry. All put in a great effort and well done to Veruun for bowling one of the opposition. Our first wicket of the season!! We will learn new skills and practice hard to make sure our bowling gets better as the summer goes on and to try and make sure we bowl less wides.

All of our fielders did well and despite not getting a chance to bowl this week James C, James H, Katie and Krishna supported their team mates and fielded well when called upon. Henry, Mark and Jack shared the wicket-keeping duties. All got better as the game progressed and they came to terms with the tricky business of whether to throw the ball back to the bowler with the glove on or off!!

I had to leave before our innings but I hear that we actually scored more runs with the bat than Flitwick managed. If we had managed to bowl a little better then victory could have been ours!!

I am looking forward to the games ahead where we will put in to practice our new skills and have LOTS OF FUN!!!
