Match Report | Grey skies, clouds scudding across overhead and gale force conditions were not enough to deter the nine men of the Under-10 County/Hard-Ball team and their band of loyal supporters journeying to the far-off venue of Blunham this morning. The mini-Boars looked nervous pre-match with Veruun, Jack , Henry, Hector, Peter and Evyn all on debut. Eversholt batted first and with stoic determination managed a score of 194 for the loss of 6 wickets establishing a total of 164 for Blunham to chase. A great effort with the willow from the whole team with Henry (twice!!), Hector, George, Ross and Ryan leading the charge. In the field, the mini-Boars concentrated well and made Blunham work hard for their runs. Good bowling from George, Ross, Hector and Veruun was well supported by Henry, Evyn and Peter. Ryan did a fine job behind the stumps and Jack supported with good fielding when called upon. The conditions made bowling very difficult and credit to George and Ross for bowling mostly up-hill and into the wind that made control and accuracy very difficult. At one point, it was feared the grounds man may have to be called as Ross’s lengthy run-up seemed to grow longer with each over and the prospect of extending the boundary to accommodate it seemed likely!! The mini-Boars toiled hard and created chances but couldn’t make the breakthrough required. Eventually, Blunham were worthy winners with the efforts of a handful of their more experienced players quite telling. We can take many positives with a relatively inexperienced side out today and the older boys taking-on responsibility and leading by example. Well done everyone including the hardy supporters!! Keep practising and see you all next week.
