Match Report |
"Lets make life a little easier" was the last line the Skip reported.. It wasn't easier or less stressful it was worse this week... Come on Boars lets win but with more ease!! With a few tweaks to the team, the battle was on against old foes Totteridge! Having been reported as 'look alikes from Mcfly' in last years report from them, it was time to put down the hair straighteners and finish what we should have done last season. Winning the toss on a grey overcast day, the decision was an easy one to make; bowl and use the conditions - and that we did my friends. Starting with Avo and Grolshy the guys bowled a superb spell, Dave bowling again with no luck "and didn't we know it"... bowled with swing and pace, forcing the visitors on the back foot. Supported always by the ever improving Avo :-) wickets soon began to fall. To be fair the opposition didn't seem too keen to enjoy the delights of what Eversholt could offer as one followed the other in what could only be described as 'Kwik Cricket'. Not helping themselves in tough conditions, they played some extraordinary and at times comical shots... we soon had them 38 for 6 but after a small fight back we eventually closed their innings at 139 - 10, with Avo eventually claiming 7 wickets, still a class act the big fella, and I would also like to mention Rob Garratt's superb catch; almost as good as mine at first slip mate! Off to tea we marched to enjoy the delights of cup cakes teas and very nice they were too Miss Nichols :-) thank-you very much. Not having Luke Kendall available, Skip opted for Grolshy.. some may say a strange choice but Grolshy has shown good technique in defence, which proved a good choice when he clipped one in the air for 1.. a good inning in terms that Skip was caught off his first ball from a lousy shot (sorry guys) I owe you some good runs! So there we were - 10 for 2 - not the perfect start. Flash played himself in and then out and it was then down to Lewis and Jack to show their class.. but Lewis the hero from last week could not manage to repeat the role and was out for 4. 'Whistling Jack' and Rob G dug in and battled hard getting us up to 102 before Jack was caught for ??? enter Jake (straighteners safely in his bag) he strolled out and then back, followed quickly by 'small rear of the year' Josh :-) we were now well under the hammer. Rob now in with Luke played it safe before Rob did a kamikaze run, running himself out... WHY ROB?? Mac2 entered the arena not having scored many this year, decided this week to use his bat instead of his pad and looked a different player :-) with 20 plus still to make the blood pressure was rising once again Mac2 played some nice shots and got the total down to 12.... was it time to relax?? no chance of that.. Luke LBW for 9 - 127 for 9 - enter the gladiator once again to try and see us home, with his trusty mallet in hand Avo stood fast with Mac2 and with some good hits we were up to 138 - 9 - come on guys you can do it! Chasing the one run to level the scores became a heart stopper, ball after ball was played back and it looked like we were never going to get there, how could I doubt - and then a quick single we were level, at least 20 points bagged, but that was not the end Mac2 then scythed one THROUGH point to secure the win. Well played Boars!! but lets finish the job a little more convincing next week as I don't think I could handle another one so soon. Thanks also to Mick & Simon for scoring & umpiring.
See ya next week for a top of the table clash..
Come on Boars!
