Captain's Report

Match one of season 2011, played one, won one. A cracking start.

With a wind of change sweeping through the club and the adoption of some new players, it was time to take action against Southgate Adelaide. During the pre-match team talk I spoke to the boys about the belief I have in them and how it was time we all stood up to the plate and played to our full potential. It was mentioned that the club was working hard behind the scenes and it was time the team paid back that investment with some strong performances going forward, and I`m pleased to say the guys didn`t disappoint.

Losing the toss, Southgate Adelaide decided to bat on what looked like a good batting strip. We opened our attack with new man Dave Goltz (4-54) and Sean Chaplin (2-27). Both worked hard in the late April sun and I thought the first session leading up the first drinks break was a pleasure to be part of. The team had a real buzz about them and there was some good battles going on with the Southgate Adelaide boys digging in through some high quality bowling battles and I'm pleased to say we won! That positive start set the standard for the game and with some good catches from new boy Lewis Perrin, Ben Nichols and Jake Nichols, the Boars bowled out Southgate Adelaide for 173.

With a new batting line up, I (49) took to the crease with Luke Kendall. Luke back from his travels and who hopes to play the full season, showed some real qualities both in defence and attack. His 44 was hopefully the start of some good things ahead. Putting 80 on for the first wicket, things were looking comfortable but with a change of tack from Southgate Adelaide their spinners found some real grip and turn which made things a little more tricky than we hoped. Losing a couple more quick wickets put the pressure back on, but the ever developing Ben Nichols (27 not out) steered The Boars home with five wickets in hand. 30 big ones in the bag.

Next week ?... Lets keep the standards high.
