Match Report | An Eversholt side slightly lacking in bowling travelled to Great Brickhill looking to back up a good performance against Bedford last week. Brickhill’s captain won the toss, and on a cloudy day chose to bat first. Oli and Josh formed an unusual new ball partnership, but after a long first over due to a Cherwell League ball, wides and dropped catches, it was effective as Josh found a lot of away swing with his medium pacers. Josh found the edge of both opener and number 3s bats in a decent opening spell of 6-2-10-2. It was the introduction of Niaz that made the difference however, who, bowling in tandem with Buzz (2-26) took 4-27 in a brilliant 8 over spell, reducing Brickhill to 118-8. Oli and Jack both took a wicket each to finish off the innings, and Eversholt were left needing 128 for back to back wins. Buzz and Rowan opened up for Eversholt, batting nicely for the first 10 overs adding 59 for the first wicket, with Rowan especially looking in good touch. Buzz was bowled for 18 bringing Jack to the wicket at number 3. He took a liking to Brickhill’s first change bowler Aldridge, hitting 41 off his two overs, bringing up a 50 off 21 balls that would be remarkable for any other player, but is what we’ve come to expect from Jack. Ross came and went cheaply, but Jack had broken the back of the chase, and in the end it was a comfortable win, 130-4 in 18 overs. A good team performance all round, man of the match goes to Niaz for his spell of 8-2-27-4, which set us up for a small chase. An honourable mention goes to Jack for his 3.3-0-7-1 and remarkable innings of 52 off 22. |
