Match Report

After two losses to start the season, the 1st XI needed a win to kick start the season, and on a decent day for cricket, skipper Jake won the toss and elected to bat.

Buzz and Josh opened up and put pressure on the Datchworth opening bowlers, scoring quickly and putting together a good opening stand. Josh was out in the 15th over for an effective 48, with the score at 81-1. This brought Ian to the crease and completely changed the complex of the match.

Ian hit the ball to all parts on his way to a fantastic century, brought up in just 67 balls and containing 12 4s and five 6s. Buzz (37) and Darren (37) were his main partners, with Jake, Steve and Ben contributing 13 between them. Some good lower order hitting from Luke and Avo took Eversholt to brilliant total of 276-10, however 3 overs were left unused as we were bowled out, so it could have been even better.

Ricky and Josh took the new ball, and started well with Ricky striking in his 1st over, and Josh in his 4th to leave Datchworth 23-2 after 8 overs. Tom Sibley came on first change, and after taking a couple of overs to get into his rhythm, bowled with discipline outside the off stump.

A good partnership of 89 between number 3 Atkinson and number 4 Vitts took Datchworth up to 112-2 after 25 overs and still well in the game, before Tom was rewarded for his disciplined bowling, getting Atkinson stumped for a well-made 56, before having the new man caught by Ricky, then clean bowling Vitts for 42. When number 7, Finn, was caught by Darren also off Tom’s bowling, he had 4 wickets and Datchworth were in trouble at 125-6.

Stroomer (21) and Sahni (20) added respectability to the Datchworth total getting them up to 170-7 before the tail was mopped up by a combination of Ben, Buzz and Avo. Datchworth 181 all out, and a big 30 points for the Boars!

Man of the Match goes to Ian for his fantastic century, which underpinned a big total. A very honorouable mention goes to Tom Sibley, not a 1st XI regular, who finished with extremely good figures of 4-52 from his 10 overs.
